Be careful what you fish for-Experiment
Target Group: Middle School
Ocean Literacy Principle: 5,6
Students experiment with different fishing methods in small groups in order to decrease bycatch.
Students mimic three different fishing methods (trawling, longline fishing and gillnetting) and record the bycatch. They formulate a research question and hypothesis and discuss the results. The activity can be found on page 13 of the Educator's Guide.
Small objects in five different colors (lego blocks, dry food like pasta and monggo beans), printed worksheet (or write the content of the worksheet on the blackboard).
