Build your own underwater exploration vehicle
Target Group: Middle School
Ocean Literacy Principle: 6,7
Students design and build their own underwater vehicle to explore the deep ocean from a plastic bottle.
They first discuss why humans explore the ocean. Students design an underwater vehicle, taking into account that the structure has to be able to pick up different types of underwater samples. The activity can be found on page 15 of the Educator's guide. Students will come to a better result if a video or movie is shown about deep ocean exploration.
Ask students to collect building materials for their underwater vehicle as homework, including 2 liter plastic bottles.
