Let’s make a tube worm
Target Group: Middle School
Ocean Literacy Principle: 1,4,5,7
Students learn more about tube worms which are creatures that live in the deep ocean close to underwater volcanoes (hydrothermal vents).
Instead of photosynthesis, tube worms use chemosynthesis. Students learn the differences between photosynthesis and chemosynthesis. They do some research on the internet to find out more about tube worms. With the information they design a poster or a model with cardboard of a tube worm and write a small report of their findings.
Manila paper, glue, clay, computer and internet connection (or ask the students to find the information as homework)
