Students do some exercises in which they realize when a map might be useful to visualize marine data.
Students think about what information should be provided on a map in order to be useful. They realize how maps help provide information about the ocean. Examples of scenario's in which maps help explain the issue are for instance the effect of oil spill on marine animals or locating hydrothermal vents that excrete methane.
