Rastreador de basura
Target Group: Middle School
Subject: Plastics & Trash
Ocean Literacy Principle: 6
Students keep track of their trash for one week and try to reduce this waste during the second week.
They will make notes of all the items they throw away in the first week, while at the second week they make an effort to generate as little trash as possible. Students compare the data between the first and the second week and between themselves. Using the data of the whole class they calculate how much trash they produce together in a year. The activity can be found on page 6 of the Educator's Guide.
Calculator, examples of trash, worksheet (or copy the data of the worksheet on the board), possibly projector and computer.
As an introduction you can show the short documentary 'La historia de las cosas' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykfp1WvVqAY), which you have to download first.
