Water pollution experiment
Target Group: Middle School
Ocean Literacy Principle: 5,6
Students carry out an experiment about water pollution and look at what will happen over time with water that is polluted from different sources.
Students take water samples from their mangrove area. They divide the water over four containers and add a different pollutant to each container. Students observe the water each week and look at the differences. Afterwards they think about how to improve the water quality. The activity can be found on page 85 of the Educator's Guide.
Containers, (small quantities of) fertilizer, vinegar, motor oil and detergent.
